Tiny Friends
We found an ootheca recently, and brought it in to watch the hatching of 85+ tiny (less than 1cm long) mantids. They have now taken up residence in the garden hopefully keeping the early spring aphids at bay.

Awwww what a little darling!
Thats awesome! My son tried to keep a fiddler crab in the house, but we didn't have an aquarium. He oculdn't understand why the crab couldn't walk the house all the time (we let crab loose in the living for a bit, kids were ecstatic). Also, my 2 yr old daughter started torturing the poor thing so I returned it to the marsh.
Time to get the wee lad a hermit crab! Great fun, and the shell strongly impedes any serious torture a well balanced toddler can dish up.
Such an adorable picture! :D It's so cuuuuute!
There it sits, planning the extinction of mankind.
